Description
Dragino LoRaWAN Soil Moisture, Conductivity, and Temperature Sensor for Agricultural applications.
Designed to measure the soil moisture of saline-alkali soil and loamy soil. The soil sensor uses Frequency Domain Reflectometry (FDR) to calculate the soil moisture with the compensation from soil temperature and conductivity. It also has been calibrated in factory for Mineral soil type.
Soil Moisture, Temperature, and Conductivity values are uploaded via wireless to a LoRaWAN gateway.
The LoRa wireless technology extremely long ranges at low data-rates. It provides ultra-long range spread spectrum communication and high interference immunity whilst minimizing current consumption.
Bluetooth (BLE) & wireless Over-the-Air (OTA) configuration supported.

LoRaWAN
The LoRa wireless technology in this device sends data over extremely long ranges at fixed intervals; default is one measurement every 20 minutes, but can be changed. It provides ultra-long range spread spectrum communication and high interference immunity whilst minimising energy consumption. In Australia, the AU915 (915 MHz) band is used, which does NOT need clear line-of-sight.
Solar Powered
This product is solar powered and includes a rechargable 3.8 V / 3000 mAh Li-ion battery. Because the electronics is designed for ultra-low power consumption, the built-in 0.9 W solar panel is sufficient for indefinite duration, long term use.
UBWH Range Testing
Google will tell you that LoRaWAN range is up to 10-15 kilometers in rural areas and 2-5 kilometers in urban areas.
We like to verify and test claims like this. What we can say is that our testing shows that 2 km range is very realistic in an urban area, with a few trees obstructing the line of sight.
