Description
This Universal WiFi product has three network interfaces:
- a WiFi Client: To connect to your main WiFi Access Point (AP).
- a WiFi Access Point (AP): To re-broadcast a new WiFi signal for increased range.
- a Wired Ethernet (AP): For wired ethernet connections (and configuration).
This product is based on Ubiquiti hardware and offers great flexibility with these opearing modes:
- Simple AP: A universal industry standard WiFi Access Point (AP). All WiFi enabled devices (laptops, smartphones, ...) can connect to this WiFi standard.
- Simple Client: Also called Station Mode, this connects one or more wired (ethernet) devices to a WiFi network. For example: connect an ethernet only TV or printer to WiFi.
- Universal Repeater: In this mode, the device is acting as BOTH an AP and a Client. It acts as a WiFi Extender/Repeater. Great for areas around the house or office where the existing WiFi network has weak signal or dead spots. In this mode, the device only needs power (included). Multiple units can be deployed.
Unlike normal Ubiquiti UniFi-WiFi products, Universal WiFi products can extend the WiFi range of non-Ubiquiti products. That is: The main AP can be any brand, including the WiFi router provided by your ISP (e.g. NBN, iinet, Optus, Telstra, ...).
- Universal Repeater, with Ethernet: This is the same as above, but adds the functionality of connecting a wired (ethernet) device as well.

Features
- Ubiquiti hardware: This product is based on the Ubiquiti UAP.
- Powerful open-source firmware: We pre-install a customised version of OpenWrt. This firmware is the basis on which Ubiquiti built is own airOS firmware so it is not surprising it works with Ubiquiti hardware. It has a long and robust pedigree. It is reliable and very powerful.
- Graphical User Interface (GUI): You have full control of the product.
- PoE powered: Because it is 24 V PoE powered, installation away from a power point is easy.
- Ethernet port included: The ethernet port does not have to be used, but is available. Handy if your TV/device does not have WiFi.
- Fast: For example, a High Definition (HD) Netflix video stream needs about 5 Mbps. This device can manage 20+ Mbps throughput so supports 4 simultaneous Netflix movies.
- Network model: The "as shipped" configuration is below, and can be changed by the user:
- WiFi Client: You configure with your WiFi SSID/Password. It then connects to your local WiFi network, much like a laptop would.
- WiFi AP: This WiFi AP broadcasts a new AP signal. It can have any SSID (WiFi name), including the same as used by the local WiFi.
- Ethernet port: [Optional] This can be used to connect a wired device (e.g. PC, Netflix box, ...) to the WiFi network.
- Bridge. All 3 interfaces above bridged together so that they are all on the same IP network.
